Illustrated Tarot Cards

For this project, I decided to create tarot cards based on Bahamian Folklores about The Chickcharney and The Lusca.

The Chickcharney is an owl like creature that roams the island of Andros. It has red eyes, long legs with three tallons, and a tail in which they use to hang from pine trees. The Chickcharney is heavily attracted to colorful flowers however are very mischievous and agressive creatures.

The Lusca is an aquatic creature seen to be a mixture of both shark and octopus. It lives in the depths of blue holes; it is said that if you go too deep into a blue hole, The Lusca will drag you deeper into the inescapable abyss.

With these tarot cards, I had first decided to approach them digitally. I then decided to use a manual technique of line work and watercolor in which would compliment the style of tarot cards more effectively.

I do plan on expanding on this project in the near future in order to create an entire deck of Bahamian Tarot Cards.
